Hair Transplant

About this service line

A hair transplant moves your own hair follicles from the dense area at the back and sides of the head to where hair has thinned: the hairline, the temples or the crown. Because the moved hair keeps the character of the donor area, it grows and can be cut and styled like the rest.

Our contracted surgeon in İstanbul plans the hairline with you and performs the transplant with the follicular unit extraction (FUE) technique, taking grafts one by one so there is no linear scar. The number of grafts depends on your donor area, not on a wish list.

As an international patient you send photographs of your scalp from the front, top, back and sides. The surgeon assesses the donor density and the area to cover, and tells you before you travel what is realistic in one session.

What to expect

The four stages every international patient goes through with us.

  1. 01

    Consultation and scalp photographs

The donor area is examined for density and the recipient area measured; the new hairline is drawn and agreed with you. Blood tests are taken before the procedure.

  2. 02

    The transplant day

Under local anaesthesia, usually six to eight hours with breaks. Grafts are extracted one by one from the donor area, kept cool and placed into the recipient area at the planned angle and density.

  3. 03

    First days in İstanbul

The first wash is done at the clinic and you are shown how to continue at home. Small scabs form and fall away within about ten days; you sleep with the head raised and avoid rubbing the area.

  4. 04

    Growth from home

The transplanted hairs shed in weeks two to four, which is expected; new growth starts around month three to four and the result is judged at about twelve months. You send photographs at agreed intervals.

Common questions

Is a hair transplant painful?

The local anaesthetic injections are the uncomfortable part; after that most people feel pressure rather than pain and pass the day resting. Mild soreness in the donor area for a few days is managed with ordinary pain relief.

How many grafts will I need?

That depends on the area to cover and on how many grafts your donor area can safely give; it is assessed from your photographs and confirmed at the consultation. No number is promised in advance, and taking too many from the donor area is avoided.

When will the new hair grow?

After the early shedding, growth begins around the third or fourth month and thickens over the following months; the final density is seen at about a year. Patience is part of the treatment.
